March 5 - Another Sea Day

We are continuing to track north-west through the Coral Sea to our next destination, Port Vila in the country of Vanuatu. The seas have claimed down this afternoon, but for most of morning we were in some very heavy swells. I would guess they were at least 3 meters or more and we felt each and everyone on this small boat.  This is lasting effects of Cyclone Kevin. The temperature is very pleasant and the humidity bearable.

Leslie our good luck charm is with us again.  He makes it for most of our big trips, usually by accident because we never seem to take him our of the suitcase.

The news coming out of Port Vila is not good.  Vanuatu has been hit by two fierce cyclones and two earthquakes in the past week.  The government there has declared a state of emergency.  Power is out in many locations and running water has also been greatly affected. There has been structural damage to many buildings and roads are blocked.

It is very doubtful that we will be able to dock and go into Port Vila. The company that we had booked an excursion with has already contacted us and cancelled the excursion.

This afternoon the Captain announced that the ship would be contacting the authorities in Port Vila to offer provisions such as water, soft drinks, and anything else that would help them in their time of troubles.

This evening we went to see the stage show, “Good Lovin”, which was a musical review of the music from the 60s. For the most part it was very good, and the selection of songs were well received. I give them a thumbs up for attempting to do a Beatles medley, because it is hard to capture the sound that is so iconic to so many people.
