March 7 - Another Sea Day

Our housekeeper Margaryta is Ukrainian. It is only after you talk to the ordinary citizens of this war ravaged country, like Margaryta,  that the true impact of this war become obvious. Margaryta has worked hard for many years on the cruise liners and saved enough to buy an apartment in Odessa. Her family still lives in Ukraine. She now faces the daily possibility that family members may be murdered by these Russian mercenaries, or the apartment she has worked hard for will be destroyed. It is not about global politics as the news media would suggest, but it is all about humans, and the negative influence on their lives. We can only hope there is special place in Hell for Petin and his generals and the sooner these bastards go there the better the world will be.

This is our sixth straight day at sea, and everyone is getting anxious to get back on solid ground and experience something new. Our days have morphed into a comfortable routine. Breakfast, followed by bridge classes or lectures about Polynesia, then a reading break on the balcony In the afternoon we have lunch, then sometimes this is followed by a midafternoon jump into the hot tub, which is followed by team trivia We finish the evening with pre-dinner drinks, dinner, and the evening’s live entertainment. We can feel your sympathy all the way over here.

We did manage to break the pattern today, by going to a Mediterranean wine tasting. The wines we tasted were outstanding. Unfortunately, I forgot the information on the wines in the restaurant, so I doubt if I will be able to remember them when I get back home.

Tonight, we had dinner in the Italian specialty restaurant called Toscana. We both had veal and a wonderful bottle of Italian wine. We had dinner with a friendly Scottish couple. They kept us laughing the entire evening. Over the years we have enjoyed sharing our table with strangers and have found this to be a most enjoyable way to meet people. Good food, good wine and wonderful company, who could ask for anything more.
